From Business Telephone Systems to Office Rent - How to Cut Business Costs in 2012

by Steve Alexander

If you're running a business, you want money to be coming in rather than going out. However, there are plenty of necessary outgoings just to keep operations going each day. Even now, post-recession, it's important to keep your business financially stable, and a steady budget will help you achieve that.

Business telephone systems are obviously important when running a business, but you can certainly find ways to keep the cost of this down. These days there are all kinds of new and improved network management systems which provide internet and telephone communications through a single source, keeping bills down, and ensuring you can manage your business communications more easily.

Of course, if you must rely on an Ethernet network for your internet, shop around for the best deals. This is an increasingly competitive industry so there is scope for negotiating a better rate for your company. Measure how much internet usage your company actually goes through every month, and make sure you are only paying for what you need.

The biggest outlay for many companies is rent, but businesses can certainly be creative with this in the age of remote working. You could consider renting out part of your office space to outside businesses or freelancers. Often smaller companies or start-ups only need enough space for around two or three people, and the demand for this kind of desk space is surprisingly strong. During the week some staff could perhaps work at home on certain days and share in-office space during the week.

Over the cost of a year, stationary costs can be surprisingly hefty, once it's all added up. A lot of it can go to waste though so a good tip is to only buy what you really need and shop around for the best deals on office stationary. Cloud computing is a great way of eliminating the need for printing, thereby reducing the cost of printer cartridges and paper.
